PRA TAMNAK DOI TUNG

Was once a palace of HRH Princess Srinagarindra,the King's Mother. It features a combination of the Lanna form of art and the Swiss-style chalet. The building is decorated with woodcarvings by Northen craftsmen in various designs on its Kalae, Choengchai, and windowframes. Around the palace lie gardens of various flowers with mant colours, which provide beauty and freshness, especially in the cold season when mist can be seen slightly covering the surrounding hilltops. Officials lead a tour of 20 minutes each round. It is open daily from 07.00 a.m.- 05.00 p.m. Admission is 70 baht.
   
     Suan Mae Fa Luang is situated in front of the palace on an area of around 10 rai. It is a garden of temperate flowers. such as. salvea, petunia, begonia, roses, DoK Lamphong, as well as more than 70 species of auspicious plants,perennial trees, and creepers. There is also the Sculpture of Continuity by Khun Misium Yipinsoi. The garden is open daily from 06.30 a.m. -06.00 p.m. Admission is 80 baht.

     The hall of inspiration is a building where the life story of HRH the King's Mother and the royal family is on display. There are 8 echibition rooms. It is open daily from 07.00 a.m. - 05.00 p.m. Admission is 30 baht. WAT THAM PA ACHA THONG

WAT THAM PA ACHA THONG

     O know as the temple where the monks ride houses to go on their alms round in the morning. It is located in Tambon Sri Kham on a remote high hill. Pra Khruba Nueachai, the abbot, who is a former cavalryman, therefore allows the monks and novices to use a horse as a vehicle to go on the mouning alms round, which begins around 07.00 a.m., to the village of Sri Muen Rai. covering a total distance of around 5 km
     Get there by take Highway No.1 for about 28 km, and pass Ampher Maechan for about 4-5 km. Then, turn into a lane off the main road, beside Wat Mae Kham Luang, and follow the direction signs all the way to Wat Tham pa Acha Thong for around 5-7 km. The road from the bridge to Lan Pra Kaeo is around 2 km long and accessible by car. The views along the roadsides are refreshing.

WAT PRATHAT CHOM SAK

WAT PRATHAT CHOM SAK

     Or formerly know as Wat Prathat Doi Baan Yang is located in Tambon Baan Doo.The temple was built in the period of Yonok Chaiyaburi Sri Chiangsaen. During the reign of Phrachao Phangkharat, the 24th king of the Yonok Dynasty, a senior monk named Pha Phutthakhosachan from Koson district in Suthammawadi city brought 16 pieces of the Lord Buddha's relics from then Ceylon and gave them to the king. King Phangkharat had a royal command to divide the relics into 3 portions to be enshirned separately at Phathat Chom Tong. Phathat Chom Kitti. and Prathat Doi Baan Yang. In 1947,Pra Khruba Khamla Sangwaro presided over te renovation of Prathat Doi Baan Yang. A new patoda was built to cover the old one, together with a Wihan, teakwood Buddha image hall on stilts. The temple name was later changed to Prathat Chom Sak.

WAT PRA KAEO AND WAT PRA SING

WAT PRA KAEO

     Located on Trirat Road. was one of Thailand's mast important Buddha statue discovered in 1444. The statue had been moved by various state rulers to be placed in their respective capitals as a symbol of dominance, including Lampang. Chiangrai and Vientiane before finally enshrined in Bangkok's Wat Pra Kaeo during the reign of King Rama 1st of the Rattanakosin

     It located near the old townhall used to house a major Buddha statue, the pra Buddha Sihing which is now enshrined in Chiangmai. A special feature is the Lanna-style Ubosot and the wooden door panels carved by Chiangrai contemporary craftsmen.

WAT RONG KHUN

     The located at Baan Rong Khun, Tambon Pa O Don Chai Mueng Chiangrai, along Phahonyotin roadside at Km. 816, approximately 14 km. from the city. This temple was designed and built by Archan Chaloemchai Khositphiphat. Awhite ordination hall-Phra Ubosot- is decorated with silver glittering pieces of mirrors. There are large mural paintings of the Lord Buddha in different gestures. A gable is decorated with a gable apex. a leaf-shaped fable-edging- in the shapes of Phya Naga. dragon and mythecal creatures. which are entirely made of white stucco. There are viharn, small hall for recitation surrounded the ordination hall. museum. reception pavillion. The gallery exhibits paintings of Archan Chaloemchai Khositphiphat. Posters. drawing albums and T-shirts are available. The earnings will contribute to the fund for building the temple. It opens daily at 08.00 a.m. - 05.30 p.m.

     Located in the town on the intersection leading to mae chan originally, King mengrai was the ruler of Nakhon Hiran Ngoen Yang, an ancient town on the bank of the mae khong around Chiangsaen. Before Chiangrai was established as the administrative centre in 1262. He consolidated his ower by merging the defferent city in the North and founded the Lanna Thai Kingdom in 1295 with Chiangmai as the capital.
